B.I.O.P.I.C.’s founder, Patrick Hanley, is a 100% disabled veteran of the Iraq war. While serving as a combat infantryman with the 2-16th of the 1st Infantry Division, in March, 2008, Patrick encountered an EFP — Explosive Force Projectile — in the streets of Sadr City, the most embattled section of Baghdad. After four plus years in various hospitals, rehabilitation programs, and outpatient clinics, Patrick was fortunate to find employment with a major environmental organization almost immediately upon his discharge from the Army in July 2012. Even so, and despite the challenges he faces daily due to the aftereffects of his wounds, Patrick felt he could andshould do more, more to promote awareness of the challenges facing the environment and more to create opportunities for us all to contribute to overcoming these challenges. Thus was born B.I.O.P.I.C. — Because It’s Our Planet, I Care.
